How to pay on Verse

Please note that all works on Verse are priced in USD.

Cryptocurrency prices may be shown alongside USD prices for reference only, and so these may fluctuate.

Credit or debit card

We support all major debit and credit cards including American Express.

Many banks have stricter internal rules for digital art purchases. If you find payment is declined by your bank, please try again. If your bank continues to decline the transaction, you may need to contact your bank directly or try another payment method.

Why was there a charge on my credit card?

Ethereum, Solana or Tezos

You can pay with ETH, SOL or XTZ through an external wallet.

Payments and minting are decoupled on Verse. In other words, a successful transactions will not necessarily mean you have received an artwork. If your transaction is unsuccessful for some reason, you'll receive an automatic refund. For ETH payments, such refunds may only appear in the "Internal transactions" tab in Etherscan.

Prepaid Bitcoin

You can pay with Bitcoin by depositing it on your Account page.

Once the deposit transaction has been completed the funds will appear in your account balance.

Account balance

You can end up with account balance through making a deposit, receiving a rebate or refund, or selling artworks.

If you don't have enough account balance for a transaction, you'll see an option to pay the outstanding

How do ranked auctions work?

In a ranked auction, the artist sets a starting price and you bid against other collectors.

When the sale ends, the available supply is distributed amongst the top bidders.

Placing multiple bids

If you have a winning bid and you place another bid, you'll have two winning bids. If neither of these bids are outbid, you'll win two artworks.

You can't cancel, increase or replace a bid once it has been placed, and your funds are locked up while your bid is active. To avoid being the risk of being outbid at the last second and not having enough time or liquidity to place another bid, we highly recommend only placing a bid for the highest amount you are willing to pay. Remember that all winning bidders pay the amount of the lowest winning bid, so there is no risk of overpaying.

Last minute bids

It can be difficult to place bids during the final few minutes of an auction, as many bids are placed at this stage and your bid amount may be too low by the time it gets submitted. For this reason, we highlight recommend placing your final bid well in advance of the end of the auction.

How do auctions work?

In an auction, the artist sets a starting price and you bid against other collectors. When the sale ends, the highest bidder wins the auction and pays for the item.

Bidding with different payment methods

Credit or debit card

When you bid and select credit/debit card as a payment option, we place a temporary hold on this amount to make sure you have sufficient funds.

If you get outbid, we immediately release this hold. Most banks show this release of funds after a few seconds, but in some cases it can take a few days.

Ethereum, Tezos or Solana

If you get outbid, funds will be returned to your account balance within a few seconds. Account balance can be put towards additional bids, or you can withdraw it to an external wallet.

Cryptocurrency payments can take a while, especially if the network is busy. If you're planning to bid within the last minute or two, we recommend using an alternative payment method to be safe.

Prepaid Bitcoin

To bid with Bitcoin, you'll need to deposit it in advance from the Account page.

Once the deposit transaction has been completed the funds will appear in your account balance, which you can use to bid.

If you get outbid, funds will be returned to your account balance within a few seconds.

Withdrawing artworks to a private wallet

Accepted Answer

By default, artworks are stored in your account within the Verse Custodial Wallet.

If you prefer, you can set up private wallet storage to have purchases sent straight there. You can also withdraw works to a private wallet any time.

Withdrawing is free. You don't need to verify your identity or do any KYC steps.

Please note that you can't list withdrawn works for sale on Verse, nor will you receive Verse global offers.

There is currently no way to return a withdrawn work to the custodial wallet.

To withdraw an artwork, navigate to it from your profile Collection and click "Withdraw to private wallet".

Next, enter your wallet address and click "Withdraw".

Please double check the address, as this action is irreversible.

Withdrawals usually take a few hours to process; you'll receive an email confirmation when it's done.

You can only withdraw an artwork after it's been minted, which usually happens within a few minutes after the sale ends.

Connecting externals wallets

Accepted Answer

Connect an external wallet to verify ownership or mint works you purchase directly to it.

Connecting a wallet doesn't grant Verse access to it — we just verify that you're the owner.

There aren't any gas fees.

Royalties

One exciting aspect of NFTs is perpetual royalties for artists and curators from secondary market sales.

Verse platform royalties

If a collector resells an NFT which has a 5% artist royalty for $100, the collector will receive $92.50 after the sale. $2.50 goes to Verse as a platform fee and $5 goes to the artist. There are no gas or hidden fees for the seller. For all NFTs sold on Verse, secondary market royalties will be immediately credited directly to the artist.

Off-Verse artist royalties

Verse smart contracts use the EIP-2891 royalties standard proposed by the Ethereum foundation. This means that if a collector sells a Verse NFT on another marketplace that respects this standard (such as OpenSea) the artist royalty will still be applied.

Not all marketplaces adopt this standard yet, so artist royalties may not be enforced on some third party marketplaces. We hope that in the future all marketplaces will adopt this royalties standard so that artists can be fairly paid for their work.

For artists: How royalties are paid out

For NFTs sold on the Verse secondary market the creator royalties will be paid in the same currency that the NFT was purchased (e.g. USD, ETH), however contact support@verse.works if you'd like to be paid entirely in fiat currency.
